I've been on depakote for six months now and I keep "shedding". This is even after lowering the dose in half because it was making me too depressed and gain too much weight. Well now I'm off. I'm on prozac and topamax now. Did anyone notice the shedding stop when the depakote stopped? Fat is one thing but fat and bald is too much for me. There's not enough prozac in the world for that!!
Is there hair after depakote?????

I noticed no hair loss on depakote. How is your thyroid?

Karen, in a thread just above this one (just look for another hair loss thread) posted that both lithium and depakote are associated with hair loss.
Zinc and selenium are helpful, in addition to a good multi-vitamin.
best,

Hi Karen,
I had significant hair loss on the combination of Nardil and lamictal, which stopped after I discontinued Nardil. Unfortunately, it can take 3 to 6 months for hair to start growing again, which was the case for me. The shedding should stop earlier. It _will_ grow back eventually.

Thanks Anita
That's what I was looking for. Grace, I don't have bald spots...yet. I wasn't the one who noticed the problem with my hair. It was my hairdresser who kept asking me why so much hair was coming out when she brushed it. Then I noticed how much hair there was on the bathroom floor and in my brush. It kept increasing. Anyway, I really hope you're right Anita.
Love,
KarenK
