hi
i was wondering if anyone knew how much klonopin is too much to take? currently, i take 9 mg a day for anxiety (3 mg, 3 times a day). ive had to increase my dosage on my own as i no longer have medical insurance that covers psychiatric care. so, i can afford the medicine, just not the doctor. so, im just wanting to make sure im not taking too much and to find out if anyone knew what dangerous levels for klonopin are?

Hi Stella,
Did you increase it on your own because your symptoms aren't under control? I take 6mg/day for panic disorder which apparently is high- but it also acts as a secondary mood stabilizer for my bipolar disorder. People who have complex partial seizures take as much as (someone correct me here if I'm wrong please) take about 16mg/day. Initially the dose is .5mg tid or about 1.5mg/day for anxiety disorder. So obviously it varies, and it would probably really help if you could manage at least one visit to a psychiatrist- perhaps you could look into a county mental health clinic. Good luck and if you do taper down- no more than 10%/week or 2 or you will have some nasty withdrawal symptoms- Judy

> stella, i would call a pharmacist. or research it online. then double check what they say or what you find out. ive always heard from my doc that 2 mgs was alot. apparently thats not the case. and i do agree with the last person that posted. wouldnt hurt to go talk to a doc and have him tell you what he thinks after talking with you. good luck!!
