Hi,
Just putting in my two cents, I have been on modrafinil
for one week, and it appears it is helping with
foggy head (circuits burnt out) and insomnia.
I still felt depressed, so I included a prozac. This drug is not on the insurance list, and my pdoc
may or may not take the action to ask for approval.I went ahead and ordered adrafinil off the web.
I read that modrafinil is a more excellent drug
because it eliminates some of the side effects
of the adrafinil. I felt like I could get through
the day,my focus was far better, some of the fog lifted
(YEAH!) and I felt a sense of accomplishment. I did
start to go down hill after about 5 to 8 hours after
taking it. I know I need more than one dose a day.
I was only given a few pills to sample. Started out
with 100 mg, after a few days took 200 mg, then took
100 mg am to 100 mg pm.If my pdoc doesn't help me out, I'll be taking the
adrafinil to see what is better.I do have elevated liver enzymes, so I've been drinkin
tea with echincea with golden seal, taking NAC which
I hear converts to L-gluthione (when I can remember)
and milk thistle to aid my liver.I have not experienced any weight gain within this
short time.I'm hoping that the adrafinil will really lift the
brain fog, or I get the prescription for the modrafinil
at a higher dose which I'm sure I need.Sassy

Hi Sassy,
Like you, I also read that Modafinil is an improved version of Adrafinil. But in my experience comparing both of them in personal trials they were quite different. Adrafinil has far fewer side effects with me and is much more effective. The extremely low cost compared to Modafinil is also a plus.I also felt the same thing as you with Modafinil, that is, it seemed to wear off after a few hours. But with Adrafinil that doesn't seem to happen at all.
Both of them worked better with a little Prozac in the background.
If Adrafinil is to work, you should feel some benefits within one day to about a 1 1/2 weeks. It will more completely kick in at about week 3, and will continue to improve with time.
Adrafinil doesn't have any withdrawal either, if for some reason you ever have to stop it. Modafinil on the other hand gave me some serious withdrawals after just two weeks of use. Anyway, please keep me posted. I'm interested to see how your comparison of these drugs turns out.
I only take one tab a day and it works fine. Sometimes I might take two during the day, but usually just one is fine.
Hope it goes well for you. Something to keep on the back burner is Amisulpride, or maybe Sulpiride, at low doses. For some reason these seem to synergize with Adrafinil very nicely. I don't understand the technicalities, but in clinical studies I was reading that there seems to be some relation between alpha-1 and dopamine D2 receptors, which perhaps explains why these drugs work so well when combined.
Johnps...another thing you could take to help out the liver would be one 200mg dose of SAMe per day. Take it mid morning or mid afternoon with water on an empty stomach. It could also help your depression as well as your liver.

Hi John,
Thanks for writing back and especially for the
tips.I sent my pdoc a fax giving him an update on
my experience with the modafinil, he called my
insurance company and they approved the prescription.I am expecting the Adrafinil any day though, and
will take it to see if it's better.I'm really excited now that I'm on the right path
and I'm ready to start living again.Sassy
