I've been on benzo's and BuSpar is like a placebo and I've tried the herbals and the teas and meditation and I'm still having panic attacks. In fact, even more than I used to have. I can't stand this anymore. I'm going to become a hermit if I don't find something that works soon. Please help, anyone. Is there anything new out there in the works?? I'm really losing it!

I've found help with general anxiety by taking depakote and seroquel. There is some "flattening" of emotions but I prefer this to constantly being wound-up and worried about everything under the sun. Unfortunately, my social anxiety has not been helped by any drug I've tried, including paxil and prozac. I don't actually panic in a social situation, but I would rather not deal with it. If I try anything that helps (besides a few shots of tequila)I'll let you know. -SGH

hi Tina,
Excuse me if this is very obvious. Have you given up all caffeine? It really, really helped me to cut down on anxiety (more than anything). Hope everything else is good in the Ottawa area.

Tina, ask your pdoc about Serzone (which really made a difference for me, in decreasing social anxiety) and Seroquel (which seems anxiolytic). Hope you find something that helps soon!--Cindy W

Hi,
I have read that panic and anxiety are treated with long term use of antidepressants (at first combined with a benzodiazepine). Antidepressants cause down regulation of receptors so you will not get the overstimulation.
The benzodiazepines most used for panic are alprazolam and clonazepam.
Sorry I do not have a reference at hand.

Hi,
Yes, coffe can put you nervous if you drink too much.
But how do you wake your mind e.g. first time in the morning to go out?. Do you use tea or anything?.
Thanks

EffexorXR plus a small amount of Buspar was helpful for me. I started the Buspar first in an effort to prevent any agitation from the the Effexor and it seemed to work. People are so different though, who knows? Did you mean benzos don't work at all? I've used them in "emergencies" but prefer not to take them daily.
I think CBT can be helpful for some people.Have you tried this site
http://www.algy.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi
It's specifically for panic/anxiety.
Good Luck

I take EffexorXR 225mgs and sm amount of vistaril and elavil. The
Effexor has helped with panic attacks. I used to have them every day for
2 or 3 years. Nothing helped me but EffexorXR except Xanax, which I got addicted to
and had to quit. I tried Klonopin, Buspar, Paxil, Luvox, higher dose of Elavil and Vistaril.
Can't even remember all of them anymore.Xanax helped, but I couldn't get any doctor to prescribe it for me at the time.
Just leaving my house was difficult. EffexorXR and a divorce relieved a lot of my
stress.

Hi Tina:
I have to admit that Paxil was the best for Panic and social phobia.
I could not deal with the lethargy and weight gain so I'm now on Prozac. I'm not too sure about Buspar but I'm not too impressed.
I use Benzo.'s for major panic attacks.
Hope you find something that works.
Good Luck
