Effexor PLUS Wellbutrin

Posted by Brad on October 29, 2000, at 20:09:41

I have a patient who has been on Effexor 150 mg qd for about 2 years. They seem to have hit a plateau and can definitely feel the difference. They have done so well on Effexor and I would like them to stay on it, but I have heard that adding Wellbutrin has had wonderful results. Anybody hear the same, and anyone with more information?

THanks

Hi Brad.

I think Effexor + Wellbutrin makes a great combination. A friend of mine was partially responsive to both monotherapeutically. In combination, they seem to complement each other. On Effexor, she lacked energy. On Wellbutrin, she lacked motivation and had residual anhedonia. All depressive symptoms are adequately treated by both. She takes 150mg of Wellbutrin SR.

One additional benefit is that Wellbutrin often counteracts the sexual side effects produced by Effexor.
