Klonopin, Adderall Thoughts

Posted by Noa on October 18, 2000, at 16:17:16

I don't know if it is a coincidence, but I had a good day today and
today was my first Adderall day.

I was focused and alert and productive, and had enough energy. Still
disorganized as hell, but it wasn't overwhelming me.

I still do feel like I can't keep up with the work, but at the same
time I feel I am doing what needs to be done to try to keep up. I
know I could do more, and am not in for going all out to get it done,
but I am doing a very respectable effort here.

Usually Wednesdays are my day off, but because of some short work
weeks, and a few "tardies" on my part, I arranged things so
I could go in today, to make up the time, which helped keep some
momentum going to tackle all the stuff I have to do.

I think I like this Adderall, although, of course it could be a total
coincidence that I am having a good day. But maybe it is the
adderall. I took 10 mg at 6:00 am and another 10 at 12:30 pm. We'll
see what getting to sleep is like toniight......

Actually, I also started Klonopin the other day because I have been
having restless legs keeping me from falling asleep despite being
dead tired. The K definitely quiets the RLs, but the first night I took a
whole 0.5 mg pill and the next day I was so tired and kept needing to
nap (thank goodness I had the sense to start on a Friday night). So
now I take half a pill, and it quiets the RLs about 95%, which is
enough, so I do fall asleep ok, but now I have been wakin gup at 3 or
4 am and unable to go back to sleep. Yesterday I was a walking
zombie, but today when I woke up I was wide awake and in a good mood,
and was not tired all day (the latter is probably due to the
adderall). So, I am asking my pdoc if we can take a different
approach, such as changing the effexor:serzone ratio a bit. I
currently take 300 of each, but I thought that maybe if I take a bit
more serzone and a bit less effexor it might address the RLs and the
early morning wakenings.

This is my first experience with both the Klonopn and the Adderall.
Any advice from you guys?

Thanks.

Noa,

I've never tried Adderall, but I have taken Klonopin. Sleepiness is a typical side effect when you first start taking it. That side effect will eventually go away once your body adjusts. You may even need to eventually increase your dose to .5 mg. I would say that in two weeks you probably won't feel nearly so tired on Klonopin as you do right now.

The adjustment period for most stims, esp. amphetamine, is days not weeks. Provided
you get the right dose most notice improvement day one. Sounds like Adderal may work for you.

Seems like it, but I was afraid to get my hopes up, that it could be just a coincidence, so thanks for the encouragement.

Sounds a little on the risky side taking two powerful and fairly addictive substances together. I would just worry about down the road in case you ever have to go off of them. And, tolerance... pretty soon you could have a mess on your hands.

I am not so keen on the Klonopin anyway. It is just to deal with the restless legs problem that has arisen within the past month or so, but I feel it is probably better to try to tweak the ratio of effexor xr to serzone, in favor of serzone a bit, and forget about the Klonopin.

Right now I take equal amounts of effexor and serzone.. I am quite sure the restless legs is from the effexor, and last night's experience confirmed this for me--I ran out of serzone and missed my dose, and I was a restless, fidgety mess all night. The only thing the klonopin did was make me really drowsy, so I ended up with that awful combo of hyperactive/fidgety/unable to lie still or sleep, and groggy/sedated/unable to keep my eyes open.
