Serzone disrupting sleep

Posted by lbulmer on August 15, 2000, at 15:57:49

My doctor prescribed Serzone for depression. I took 1/2 of 25 mg. for the first time last night. Instead of helping me sleep, it was as if it unleashed a circus in my head. Every time I'd start to sleep, there were vivid, colorful, moving images in my head of things like MardiGras masks, fire, all different bizzare things. Each time, I'd pop awake. After about two hours or so, I got out of bed and took about 5 mg. of Xanax. By the time I got back into bed, I was freezing (this is August in Florida) and shaking. When I finally warmed up, I also fell asleep but slept fitfully all night, although the images didn't come back.

Is this something that will go away if I keep taking it, or does it sound like I should avoid this drug? I'm kind of scared to take it again.

Sleep and dreams can get weird whenever beginning a new antidepressant. Serzone is well known for its sleep augmenting properties, but I had a few weired nights myself before my system was accustomed. You're on a super, super low dose, BTW.I started at 50 mg. and noticed nothing until I hit about 200 mg. I'd keep with it. Good Luck.
