How about Kava Kave & anxiety ? I have a GF that has just told me she has panic attacks at night a lot of the time. She has a classic "does not want to take any meds" part of anxiety. Has been treating herself for anxiety & panic, etc.
Can some of you guys tell me your experience with Kava Kava ?
Yes, I know she needs more than KK but I have take what I can get. She says she will try it since it is an herb.
side effects & dose, etc ?
Thanks for any info... Damn how we end up with SOs with similar problems ???
Celexa has done fine for me, but it looks like it would take handcuffs to get her to a pdoc right now. I'm trying....

I drink prime Waka grade Kava root from Fiji. It makes my mouth and throat a bit numb. That's about it. Doesn't seem to produce any relaxation at all. I put it in a muslin bag and dip and squeeze several times. Mind you, coffee makes me sleepy and cannabis never did much for me either. Perhaps there are better ways of extracting the various lactones from Kava, although this starts to become recreational drug use and may not be suitable for the likes of us

The dose I was taking was one 250mg capsule of a standardized extract with 30% kavalactones 3-4 times a day. I didn't notice any side effects except maybe a little tiredness. It was recommended to me by my doctor, she told me that it must be taken regularly in order to be effective. Hope this helps.

Hi danf -
My daughter has found that Kava Kava helps calm her down. She's taking Manerix & still waiting after 2 months for it to 'kick in'. I recently visited her & she had taken Kava Kava & BOY - was she mellow!!!!!
During menopause "ratty moods" I found that a herbal tincture of "Motherwort" helped me amazingly. I'd find myself being really sharp with my family & I'd take it in a bit of water & it would calm me down. (Available in natural food stores.)
