Anyone had success on lamictal(lamotrigine) and ad's
with other mood stablizers? Been on it about 4-5 weeks
and finally I *think* I feel a little better.
Have depression/fatigue,and/or: insomnia/agitation/panic.

Hi Lois. Are you taking lamictal by itself, or to augment an anti-depressant? I tried lamictal to augment Nardil--I think it was working, but I was one of a small percentage with a weight gain. I am now trying stimulents to augment the Nardil, but none have yet been helpful (I am waiting for adrafinil to come in the mail). If the adrafinil trial is not successful, or only partly successful, then I will try topamax, which has similar mechanisms as lamictal, but no weight gain, and different possible side effects. If you are getting good effects from lamictal, maybe you can still increase your dose (slowly though). Shellie

Oh no!! Weight gain? I'm also on paxil and REMERON.I am eating!!!!!!!!!I also wonder if lamictal potentiates the remeron or paxil.
Can't find anything specific to this in literature. Does lamictal make you eat or just slow the metabolism?I know remeron increases appetite.Maybe I could decrease remeron due to the lamictal.I will ask my doc.Thanks for the weight thing info. How does adrafinil(sp?) work?
BTW I have read of people gaining wt. on MOAI's but I lost BIG time----just hate the diet.Many tyramines are hidden in the tiny labels of additives(i.e.soy protien, etc.,I think).

Lois, I wouldn't worry about a weight gain on lamictal; its not very usual. In fact, my pdoc hadn't seen it in any other of her patients. An¶ I didn't have increased appetite-- must have been a metabolism thing. ÊWhen I stopped I lost eight pounds in one week. And my breasts hurt all the time on lamictal even though I tried taking a diuretic. So I'm not sure what was going on. Sounds like if I lost the weight so fast and my breasts hurt, that I was retaining fluid. But then I'm not sure why the diuretic didn't work. In any case, I went off.
As for adrafinil, there's lots and lots of posts on it in the last few months and weeks, so I would just read through those. It's hard to get a lot of information, since it is a french drug--but anything that's out there has been dissected on this board. Shellie
