Serzone???

Posted by Sascha on July 6, 2000, at 23:41:21

I am currently on Prozac but the strength that makes a difference with me (40) has adverse side effects such as insomnia and being fidgety, and maybe diarrhea too. So I'm gonna talk to my doc, also because I also have anxiety now do deal with on top of the depression. What about Serzone? I've heard some good things about it, so exchanging that for my current Prozac. any thoughts, esp. re: its effectiveness for depression *and* anxiety?

Sascha, I took Serzone for depression for a while, and it REALLY helped with social anxiety. People are all different, though. I tried Prozac for l0 years, but it didn't help, after a while. Talk to your pdoc and check out all the posts in the archives here about Serzone. (I loved it; some people hate it.) Good luck to you!

I'm one of the people who did not do well on Serzone. I was having intense mood swings and suicidal ideation. I couldn't just hold something, I was gripping it tight; a lot of tension and anxiety.

However, as you know, different meds for different people. As background, I did moderately ok on Prozac, terrific on Zoloft but it pooped out, ok on Effexor but so sleepy, Effexor + Buspar little better, and now Effexor and Wellbutrin keeps me level, not as great as Zoloft.

Good luck. I know it can be hard to decide. My doctor referred to my history when we were talking about a direction to take.

Shar-
Did you have weight gain on Zoloft - just curious. I am also curious about Buspar - did you notice a difference in your stress and anxiety with that?

I had a rough first few weeks on Serzone, with moodiness, emotionality, rage, as well as fogginess and coordination/balance problems. But all that cleared up after about three weeks, and I have done well with it since. It helps to counter the activating effects of effexor, such as insomnia and restlessness. I take 300 mg of Serzone, along with 300 mg effexor (also--20 mg Ritalin 2xday and thyroid meds).
