I suffer from BPII and take Neurontin 600mg daily and buspar 20mg (most days only 10mg caus' I hate it). Today, however, I am crawling out my skin. My limbs ache, I feel like I'm electrified and I'm agitated beyond reason. I feel like I could run the 100 meter in no time, and I've already taken 300mg to try to calm down with no luck. Any suggestions?

dari,
Do you take any other meds in addition to these? Anything new to your normal schedule? How long have you been on these meds? Changes to to our daily routine can trigger anxiety, at least it does for me. I take Neurontin also and if anything, it calms me down. Tried the BuSpar but it had no effect on me, bad or good. Have you done or had anything out of the ordinary happen today? I have days of "agitation" too and I just generally medicate a little heavier when that happens (I'm not recommending that you do that). Sometimes stress, additional sugar or caffine, or other outside influences can cause the agitation to happen. Sometimes a warm bath can help a little. If you're into meditation, that might help. If you you are feeling REALLY out-of-sorts you might want to contact your doc. Could just be an off day and you'll have to tough it out. Don't you hate it when people say that...
You'll be in my thoughts today. Keep talking.
Greg

Stop taking the buspar and call you doc, they have weekend answering services,
you may be having a significant side effect that is reversable. Buspar, in a few people ,has some of the side effects one sees in antipsychotics.james

I agree with St James. Though either drug could be at fault here, I would be most suspect of the Buspar. It's just such a finicky weird drug and does dramatically different things with different people. How long have you been taking it? Why do you think this just started now? Was it the higher dose maybe?
Buspar has some interaction with dopamine receptors, in addition to other primary mechanisms. It wouldn't surpise me if what you are feeling has something to do with that dopamine interaction. Thankfully it has a short halflife, so by the time you read this hopefully things will have calmed down. In your shoes I would report this to my doctor right away.

Another agreement to James and JohnL's assessment- it's the buspar. Had the same rx and used the same words; they knocked me out with mellaril. A little extreme perhaps, but it worked. Call the pdoc. Hope you're better soon.
This is the end of the thread.
