JUST STARTED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO ON A REALLY SMALL DOSE. THE NEXT MORNING I FELT GREAT. I THEN TOOK THAT DAYS DOSAGE AND I FELT TERRIBLE. I THINK TAT MAYBE MY DR. HAS STARTED ME ON A DOSAGE THAT IS TOO LOW OR THAT I OUGHT TO BE "UPPING" THE AMOUNT IN A FASTER MANNER. I'M TAKING 37.5 AT 200LBS. FOR A WEEK AND THEN GOING TO 75 AND THEN A WEEK LATER 150. I HOPE THAT THIS MED WORKS BECAUSE I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING OUT THERE OVER THE LAST FEW YRS. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT I'M GETTING THIS FROM AN INTERNIST WHO DOESNT KNOW WHAT A PSYCH DOC WOULD KNOW. I'VE PREVIOSLY BEEN DIAGNOSED W/PTSD. THE ONLY THING ABOUT THE 1ST DAY THAT I DIDNT LIKE WAS THE HEADACHE THAT CAME W/IT BUT ON THE SECOND DAY THERE WAS NONE.IF ANYONE HAS HAD ANY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE W/LOW DOSAGE LET DOWN LET ME KNOW

Dash,
I used Effexor XR a few months back for a short time. I started with 37.5mgs also. The 2 side effects I experienced were memory loss and extreme fatigue. It was due to the memory loss that I was changed to Wellbutrin. It's been my personal experience, and from what I've read from others here, that fatigue and that "not feeling well" is a pretty common side effect when initially starting Effexor. If you are not experiencing severe problems with it, it might worth your time to try and stick it out for awhile. I've read here where many people have had some very positive results from it. I believe that the 6-8 week rule might apply to you here. But you have to do what's comfortable for you
I wish you the best of luck!
Peace,

Sometimes pdocs begin effexor at 18.75 mg for the first few days. This is what my pdoc does with his patients. You are not beginning at too low of a dose and you should not be increasing the dose at a faster rate. It takes four days to achieve maximum blood plasma levels of effexor. If you increased the dosage every third day then you would not receive greater benefit. Since you have not responded fully to many other AD's then you are treatment-resistant. Effexor works in 50% of treatment-resistant patients. I am on 300mg of effexor along with 100mg of trazadone to conteract decreased appetite, sexual dysfunction, agitation, emotional flatness. It took me a good month to fell better on 225mg, so be patient. Good luck!
