Neurontin - Any information on this medication

Posted by Ginny L on May 30, 2000, at 8:07:06

I just started taking this medication for headaches and am looking for any information on it. Any side effects? Weight gain or loss? Anyone had success with it for headaches? I also am taking Topamax along with it. I have headaches everyday and have tried many different medications and several have seemed to work for me, but unfortunately have side effects that I am not willing to live with such as hair loss with Depakote, heart palipitations with Amitriptlyne, and so on... So, here I go again with another medication. My Dr. said if this one doesn't work, he suggests the "big gun" as he called it. He said he wants me to try an "IVDHD"? or something like that. It's giving me an IV for 3 hours in his office for 2 or 3 days with some kind of medication, that's supposed to work wonders for months. He said people have had great success with this and have this done 2 or 3 times a year. Anyone heard of this? I'm afraid to do it and don't want to. Suggestions? Ginny

Hi Ginny,
I have been taking Neurontin since the end of
August for the pain of shingles on my head.
I was up to 900mg/day.Didn't notice any side effects
In the last 2 week have
reduced it to nothing and my mood has not been
good at all and the irritation on my head has
increased. I have gained about 15 pounds but
think that may have been from the Zoloft which I
no longer take. Taking the Neruontin for your
headaches is sure worth a try. I will be talking
to my Dr. today and expect to start back on the
Neurontin.
Good luck.
Carol
