Doctors need to listen. I was put on paxil for 9 months and
then the doctor had me come in. So now I am taken off
or Paxil with a week cut back and then a week after being
off it, they want me to take wellbutrin.Well I feel like shit. dizzy, wozzy, shocks, whoshing
in my head, aches all over in my joints, water retention,
headaches, disorientation. and now they want me to gamble
with my life again when they just took such crappy care
of me. Has anyone been through this and then put on
Wellbutrin? Can I get a professional opinion that will
give it to me straight and not play dumb about weight
gain, loss, nightmares, etc....PLEASE

Sharri,
I've never taken Paxil, just know that I've tried and haven't been able to tolerate other SSRIs.I am taking Wellbutrin now at the top recommended dose (U.S.) of 400mg. It has helped considerably. There are a number of threads above and in past months on Wellbutrin that you might want to read. Also, there is info on different drugs through Dr. Bob's links page, which you'll find at the top of this page. In the meantime, here's a web site with some information on Wellbutrin:
http://www.pdr.net/gettingwell/depression/prevention/consumers/cn_bupropion.htmlBeing armed with information and questions for your doctor is your best bet in trying to get well.
I have actually lost weight on Wellbutrin, which from the things I read is common. Did you doctor tell you why he/she wanted to take you off Paxil? Was it working for you? Did your doctor explain why he/she was putting you on Wellbutrin?
Good luck.

Hi Sharri,
I'm one of the folks out here who knows first-hand the hell that paxil withdrawal is. Funny that they don't mention it in all their cheery TV commercials ....
Anyway, my pdoc was planning on switching me to wellbutrin in any event. When the withdrawal really kicked in, he put me on it at 300mg SR a day. For me, it was a lifesaver. Not only did it eliminate the withdrawal, but (in hindsight) the combination of the two was actually working quite well as an AD cocktail. The wellbutrin did make me somewhat forgetful -- so there were times when I'd forget to take my morning meds. By 10AM, the withdrawal symptoms would kick back in. I learned to always carry a bottle with one dose of my morning meds (still do) just in case ... and 20 minutes or so after taking that dose, the symptoms would disappear again.
[As to why I'm not currently on those two if they seemed to work so well ... that's another story ... and it ain't pretty!]
Remember -- Your Mileage May Vary. It may not work for you. But I hope you get the same response that I did. After about six weeks, there came a morning when I forgot my meds again and once I realized it, it was already noon. That's how I finally knew I was through with paxil.
good luck!
bob
