Taking a day off from the meds?

Posted by Greg on May 10, 2000, at 8:04:40

I stayed home from work yesterday as I wasn't feeling well. I didn't take any of my meds, except for my Ambien at bedtime. I slept from 7:45pm until 3:45 (my normal wake-up time for work) uninterrupted. I normally wake up at 1 or 2 am (if I'm lucky to sleep that long) and start tossing and turning with my mind racing 90 mph. When I got up I was thinking with more clarity than I've had in quite some time. I felt better physically too.

Is it possible that taking a day off from your meds periodically is a good thing?

James here....

Depends on what meds you are talking about. I take a day off from Dex but don't do this with my AD's. I don't take Atavin more than 3 days running

I don't know if not taking your meds for a day is a good or bad thing....but I just wanted to let you know that I was happy to hear you had a good day!!

We all live for those good days, don't we!! 8)

I would say its a good idea. I remember being on the wrong med, and as it was weaning off, I began to feel better. This clarified things in my mind; namely that the medicine I was taking wasn't right for me. Anyway, to this day, I still take a day off or make a reduction in my dosage. My PDoc doesn't know or wouldn't approve. I do notice that the break in the constant medicine overhaul creates a "breather" for your own natural chemistry to readjust.
