I am thinking of starting yet another new drug, serzone.
Has anyone had a positive effect from this drug?

TLW - I have seen some people respond very well to Serzone, but I have been told by others that it is crap, even after an adequate trial (that physiological variation between people thing, again). Serzone has given some people the best restful sleep they have had in a long time and this effect seems to be maintained over time. The initial side effects can be a bugger, though. It may be worth a 2 month trial to see if it works for you. Others on this site may be able to give you first-hand knowledge of how the drug worked for them. Hope this helps - Cam W.

I've heard both positive and negative effects from Serzone. I am in the camp that worsened with it. But I've heard of others who did very well with it.

I know one doctor who has a great deal of success with it. He claims it is his method of dosing that creates the high success rate. He starts patients at 50mg a day and increases by 25mg every four days. For some strange reason, he claims Serzone works much better this way and allows a smoother adjustment to any side effects. He prefers to give a larger portion of the dose late in the day, with a smaller portion in the morning or at lunch. Sometimes the higher starting doses in literature are just too much to start with, and just lead to adverse reactions that lead to premature discontinuance. JohnL

TLW: I've been using Serzone for over a month. I
take 150mg in the am, and 450mg at bedtime. Total
dosage 600mg/day.

There is a semi-sedative effect that I like right
now, it helps me sleep, but will not want once I'm able to crawl out of my
hole.

Another side effect is the wobblies. I find myself
having to grab onto something to prevent stumbling
or falling.

As an AD, I afraid it's not doing much for me. I
plan to do a trial of yet another AD the next time I
see my doc.

Good Luck

TLW, I tried Serzone and really liked it (and would still be taking it, if it helped with OCD as much as it helped with depression for me). The first two weeks were hard (dizziness, fatigue, feeling spaced out, etc.) but after that, I felt better and better, with a huge reduction in social anxiety and depression. Best wishes.

I use it as an AD augmentor and for sleep problems caused by effexxor. If you try it, give it at least 5 or 6 weeks. The first 3 or 4 weeks can be hard. As the dose increases, a number of people here have reported feeling very emotional, angry, tearful, irritable, etc. as well as wobbly, foggy headed, uncoordinated, etc. But this usually wears off. I find Serzone somewhat sedating, not as intense and fast acting as trazodone, with a lingering sedated feeling. This helps me with sleep. I don't know how I would feel on a day time dose. I find it does a good job of countering the insomnia, restlessness, and twitchy muscles from the effexxor. I can't really judge how good an antidepressant it is.
