Hi everyone,I was wondering if the estrogen in birth control pills has any affect on depression. I am have been taking Remeron and Prozac (15 mgs. each) for a while, and I am about to start taking birth control pills. I am going to take the 20 mg. Loestrin, which my doctor says is one of the lowest doses available in the pill. I was wondering if this could have any affect on my depression. Is a lower or higher amount of estrogen generally linked with depression? I have heard this, but I was not sure if it was true........ Should I take a higher dose pill? Does anyone have knowledge in this area?
Thanks,
Nancy

hi Nancy,
I take the birth control pill for severe PMS and anxiety at ovulation. It pretty well gives me complete relief of my symptoms. I haven't noticed an increase in depressive symptoms, but we are all different.
Scott S just wrote some information today about estrogen and depression. It's under the thread, 'Childhood disorders that disappear at puberty'.
take care, Janice
