topomax

I've recently begun taking topomax to prevent headaches. I'm practically
hooked on BC powders and I've tried other medications liked Amitrytiline which gave me
heart palpitations and Nortrytline which did the same, several other medications, nothing
seems to work. So now I'm trying this. The bonus is, my Dr. says this may possibly help me lose
weight. I haven't noticed it helping with headaches so far. I've only been taking it for
4 days though. I feel kind of nauseated when I take it, and kind of "not myself". A little
"slow" in my way of thinking, you know? Is this normal? My question is, is there anybody else out there
who is taking this for the same reason as me, for preventing headaches? Has the majority of people lost
weight on this medication also? I'd love to have feedback on this. Thanks!

>Ginny-I am taking topomax for bipolar and I have found that I have had a dramatic decrease in headaches. I used to get about 3 or 4 a week , and now I am hardly getting any. I have been on the Topomax for a month and a half and have lost 10 pounds most ly due to a decrease in appetite. I think the feeling of being "not yourself" will go away as you become accustomed to the medication. What is the dosage you are on?-cynthia

I also was on Topamax - as a mood stabilizer. I didn't have any headaches. I also lost weight. A decrease in appetite. However, I stop using the medication as I felt like a "clone" of myself. Enough like myself to be recognizable - but something was "off." I also experienced a terrible ringing in my ears. I took the medication for about 3 months.
