Had applied for insurance and while accepted, they are issuing a 10 year waiver regarding any problems with mental health issues. Anyone know if this will also mean they won't cover even medicine expenses? Can be reviewed in two years for more consideration IF haven't had any problems along that line! What are people supposed to do????!!!! Would appreciate any input and advice.

James here....
Generally the only way to get ins w/o these "riders" is to sign up when you are first employed, otherwise they limit pre-existing conditions. I would guess 10 years mean what it says, no treatment for mental health for 10 yrs and this would include meds. YOu really need to ask your Insurance Company for the final word.

I *thought* there was supposed to have been some new legislation regarding parity for mental health concerns. I guess they just want to sell health insurance to people who don't need it, huh? Really depressing.................

What about a "regular" (General Practice? Family doctor?) doctor prescribing meds for "mental" illness? Might that be covered?

that be covered?///I doubt it. While a general practitioner can prescribe the meds, the "catch" would be that they are still for a pre-existing condition. They will review the situation in two years, BUT there will have to be no indication of , symptoms of, or treatment for the (pre-existing) depression. Sigh....................
