The Lancet reports SJW decreases the absorption of many AIDS meds to a
significant degree and it is expected that SJW will be found to do this with
other meds. We really should think of herbs as no different than prescribed
meds.

If one expects an herb to "do something" and it does, then the herb has a potential for pharmacokinetic &/or pharmacodynamic interactions with drugs or other 'active' herbs or even some foods. If an herb has some activity or changes some parameter of the body's working, then it has to be considered a drug. Most of our conventional medications were originally plant materials that were refined, concentrated and often structurally changed to be more potent and have fewer side effects. Hope this helps - Cam W.
