Cass & Cindy, I just now found your posts to me
dated 2/8 in the 'previous posts' section. I tried
to reply from there but it didn't seem to go thru.

Cass, thanks for sharing your experience and for
offering advice. My friend pulled WAY back. Maybe it
can be salvaged, but at this point I can't afford to
hope.

Cindy, thanks for the hug & smile. I love hugs &
smiles.

I understand where you're at in terms of not being able to afford hoping. But in case your friend does call you one of these days, it wouldn't hurt to be in the frame of mind in which you emphasize your strengths and independent pursuits. A flexible "script" of some sort may be helpful, if you feel it is worth your while.

Hmmm. You are right that I should present myself
in a positive manner. Initially, the "script"
idea seemed manipulative and kind of deceitful,
upon further thought though, it can be construed
to be a reminder to myself to focus on good things.
I will consider it.

Again, I'm glad I found this forum, but I'm afraid
I'm being too self absorbed and whiny. Thanks to
everyone for putting up with me.
