26 yr. old son had a seizure at work today. Has had "dizzy spells" for some time - thought it was, perhaps, food/meal related. CT Scan and blood work were fine - will see neurologist tomorrow. He's on Effexor and Wellbutrin (Ceclor and Nyquil for cold) and that's about it. Depression and BPD - some theories out there about some "misfirings" in brain and small seizure activity when "anger/rage" incidents occur. Anyone experienced in this area? Thoughts please.
Thanks!

Wellbutrin is well-known to precipitate seizures in a small percentage of people and is contraindicated in anorexia for that reason. That would be the most likely reason for the seizure. Your neurologist will most likely want to discontinue the Wellbutrin.

He was having the "dizzy spells" long before he began the Wellbutrin (shoulda said that.) So I'm not sure the Wellbutrin would necessarily be a factor......well......could, of course, be a factor since he had a full-fledged seizure. But I can't figure out the "dizzy spells" - they've increased in frequency and intensity over the course of almost several years. (I know, I know......you'd think he would have already gone to the doctor, right?)

James here....
Is the Depression and BPD and existing condition or a new thing ? This sounds like a complex case that has yet to be properly named. There is a lot of info comming out about Seizures and some psyco conditions being related. Get the best possible consult you can so you can get to the bottom of this. Let us know what the neuro man has to say. Many are finding the newer anti seizure meds effective for mood problems, esp BPD.

No, this isn't a new diagnosis. Been at if for several (5) years. So far the tests haven't revealed anything out of the ordinary. May have just been a one-time deal, I dunno. (Although.....I just had a reaction myself, after taking a Ceclor last night.....swelling, itching, hives.) Any connection, one wonders.
