PROZAC + 5HTP

I am starting a gradual Prozac treatment. Does anybody know whether or not it would be a good idea to take 5HTP in addition? Is there a chance the two will interact negatively?

There is a definite risk of a serotonin overload syndrome, which is dangerous and sometimes deadly. That being said, I have taken up to 50mg 5htp with 20mg prozac. I was having other side effects that the 5htp only made worse, so I discontinued. But at that dose it was safe for ME. Safe for YOU? Don't know. Easy does it. Experiment with caution. I started by emptying half the capsule contents onto toast with jam. I was too scared to try a whole capsule without feeling it out carefully first. Keep an eye out for early symptoms of serotonin syndrome, such as diarrhea, cold sweating, fevers, chills, cramps, confusion, and more. Might want to read up on it in a search.

Yes, be very careful doing this; there have been cases of toxicity with this combo. Make sure your pdoc knows what you're doing.
