Norepinephrine drugs?

Posted by Racer on October 15, 2003, at 15:17:44

OK, I'm at my wit's end here. Can anyone name a drug that works on the norepinephrine system? Lots of serotonin drugs, but the only two I know of that work on the other systems are Effexor, which stopped working for me and caused hellish withdrawal, and Wellbutrin, which seemed to be working, but can cause seizures for those of us who have had eating disorders and head trauma.

No one should have to feel this bad. It's unreal.

Straterra--it is a Selective Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (SNRI).

I don't know if this is medically acceptable, but I take Wellbutrin when I can afford it, AND have a rx for Klonopin, which I use for sleep but happens to be an anti-seizure med. It might be an option to consider taking both, so the seizure danger is offset a bit.

Racer,
You may want to look into deprenyl AND do a thorough job because I don't want to just recommend something without making sure you know about possible caveats.

Anyhow, deprenyl is not a prescription med (tho if it makes us feel good, it probably will be soon). One site (and there are MANY) for info is www.deprenyl.net. If you are bipolar you have to be very careful with it.

I've ordered some to try.

Hey Racer !

Many TCA's, most MAOI's. Of the TCA's, Imipramine,
sumontril, and Doxipin were the ones that worked for me, & I am a Norepinephrin person.

Ooops, in the U.S. deprenyl IS a prescription product. If you would like more info on it you can email me at shar_from_babble at yahoo dot com.

Well, I heard it is related somehow to Straterra, so that would make sense (at least in my layperson's little mind!).
