Actually, it was more of a confirmation of a suspicion:. Here it is...
Lettuce does not taste good sauteed.
Not even with onion. My roommate, who is from Kenya, wanted to make ugali (a sort of cornmeal mush), but she traditionally serves it with sauteed greens such as kale or collard along with fried/scrambled egg. However we had no greens in the fridge, but did have lettuce she got for free from school last week. It was starting to wilt and she didn't want to waste it, so she decided to try frying this up instead.
We both agree that it didn't work.
Last summer we (or at least I) learned that cucumber does not taste good sauteed. We had an extra one in the fridge during summer squash season, my roommate was cooking one night and I think she thought it would be about the same as a zucchini, so....
Last night, we sort of had a version of French toast for dinner...white bread dipped in egg and fried, except the bread was not completely covered in the egg. And there was no syrup.
I think maybe I need to start buying more groceries and cooking more often.
