My Dr prescribed Periactin for the restless agitation and anxiety which he believes is caused by too much serotonin in the blood. Fact is I now feel so drowsy I can barely think. And I'm agitated. Anybody got any ideas?
thanks

> FredHi Fred,
I would think a change of Drs. might be in order here. Seratonin
as I understand it resides in the brain chemistry not in the blood. I think antihistamines work well as a sleep aid but hardly something you can continue to function on long term.Michele

Whoa! Changing docs may be a bit extreme.
OK, I don't know anything about antihistamines and ssris, but I do know that Racer (where is she?) has posted that she uses periactin to counter the sexual side effects of ssris, so it is not unheard of to combine them. I recommend asking her this question.

i am going to have to agree that changing doctors may be a bit extreme....serotonin is actually found in the blood, though i forget any of the precise mechanisms....long ago (okay 2 years) i did a paper concerning the physiological mechanisms of depression and remember being suprised to learn of studies that measured serotonin level in the blood.
who knew?
