I have been on Celexa for around five months. It seemed to work fine except for side effects for the past three months but then began to poop out. Augmentation with
Buspar is now recommended. Anybody have any experience like this?

Not specifically with celexa (have never taken it) but definitely with other meds. It is frustrating, especially when you feel the med had been doing the trick.

Go to the "tips" section and type in naltrexone and do a search. This drug seems to be helping a lot of people regain the antidepressant effect of their failing med. I know of one poster on this board that augments his prozac with it and swears by it. Hope this helps and good luck!

I've been on 20mg celexa since April and I never got a pronounced effect from it, but it wasn't until last week that I really noticed that it wasn't working anymore. Depression is weird like that, it just sneaks up on you until in becomes intolerable. I started on 100 mg Wellbutrin to augment. After 2 weeks no improvement. I stupidly decided to go off the celexa "cold turkey" and increase my dose of wellbutrin to 200mg. This has caused major problems. Don't know whether it is caused by the Celexa withdrawal or the wellbutrin increase. Headaches, anxiety attacks, anger, tons of g.i. problems. Be careful and follow your doctors orders!

Hmmm...
I think I'm starting to poop out on the celexa, too, after several months(a year?), or is it even extra added stress in my life? How am I to know the difference?
Jim, did you augment the celexa with anythng else? How are you doing?
How are the rest of you all doing?
Good Luck!

I am anxious to hear what people are saying. I too feel that the Celexa after4 or 5 months of taking 20 mg is not as effective as a few months ago. I feel more anxiety, having psycho dreams again and just feel yuck. Did not take a pill today for the first time and feel a bit more energy than lately. When do you know it is time to quit? What happens if you feel you are over the depression and the pills helped so very much and now are they necessary? Not sure what to do but hate feeling tired all the time and then a bit cranky.

Thanks for evrybody's comments. It turns out that the morning headache I get from Celexa for some reason began to translate to morning depression. When I realized this, I began to really think in the morning-is this depression or pressure behind my eyes caused by Celexa headache.
After carefull consideration, I have concluded it was more headache!Be carefull when going off Celexa. I did it very slowly from 40 to 30 mg per day and after about three weeks the nasty depression began to sneak back!
Things seem OK now and I'm seeing a new therapist which may be making a difference. Weight gain hs been a MAJOR problem. My normal weight was around 210. When I was depressed it went to 185 and people said I looked good!
On Celexa I went to 220 and now I'm inching up toward 230! Even with little eating, I think this stuff affects matablism in a big way!
This is the end of the thread.
