Does anyone have one of those huge package inserts for Luvox (fluvoxamine)? I am tyring to find out if alopecia (hair loss) is a side affect. I have researched many others ADs and ALL have this fun side affect listed as "Infrequent", meaning 1 in 100-1,000 people experience it. The ones I've researched are Paxil, Serzone, Wellbutrin, Elavil, Tofrinal, Sinequan, Remeron, Effoxor and Buspar. Everyone stinkin one has hair loss as an Infrequent side affect.
My search began after my hair starting falling out when on Prozac. I quit Prozac and REALLY need to find a replacement. (yes I've been checked for thyroid and anemia) I'm assuming since Luvox is just another SSRI, it will have the same side affect, but I thought I try!
Thanks.

You know, I THOUGHT I was losing hair, but it is not a dramatic loss, so I thought maybe it was just due to getting older. I haven't lost any patches of hair, but it is a bit thinner in front than it used to be. As I said, I thought maybe everyone's hair starts to thin in late 30's. Do you think it might be due to all the ADs I have been on?

It reminds me of Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber -- the bit about since there was a one in a million chance (or something like that) that some woman would go out with him, he was excited because there was still a chance ....
I checked www.mentalhealth.com for their monograph on Luvox, and it didn't even mention hair loss (unless it was one of those fancy latin terms I didn't understand). Kinda sucks to have one of those "Infrequent" or "Rare" side effects, doesn't it? For me, zoloft jacks my cholesterol up (besides weight gain), and I've never seen it listed as a side effect. My GP did some searching and found a few references to it, but for some complicated reasons I'm stuck with it for now, plus some Lipitor to knock the chol level down.
You know, if I was going to hit a one-in-ten-thousand or higher odds on something, why couldn't it have been the lottery?
Cheers,
Bob

Zoloft raised my cholesterol!
Hair loss occured before antidepressant treatment and my research confirmed that a bad diet can be the cause. Once my appetite returned hair loss ceased and new hair grew. Zoloft only worked for a year. Now I am on Effexor and no hair loss or high cholesterol. However, frequent cycling between depressed and normal mood and an occasional "I feel good" day. But I feel the Effexor has pooped out and now I'm trying Lamictal. Nightmares have increased since including Lamictal. Oh, what do I do now? I keep coming back to get info from others and wonder if I am addicted to Psycho Babble! But it is comforting to hear the perspective of others since I can't talk to anyone personally. There have been so many posts that have initiated a response of "Me, too, Amen, or I'm not the only one!" Thanks, all.

I fund too that sometimes it's comforting and it's also frightening, confusing & depressing trying to make sense of what doesn't seem to make any sense at all, too often...shared experience or not...

Found that Luvox has also the same side affect. This site has lots of good info:

Hair loss is apparently my Achilles Heel. What a choice - depression or baldness? I love a shiney head on men, but I don't relish the idea of becoming the first bald chick in the neighborhood! Although, maybe with the addition of a tatoo on top, I could start a new fashion tread?? Perhaps a Seahorse??
Bob - agreed on that lottery comment! could have chosen several better long shots than this one!

Hey, it worked for Sinead! And who's the lead singer for the Cranberries? I seem to remember her mostly with a whitewalls, Marine-style buzz. Ooh! Then there was the woman from that 80's group that sang "I Want Candy" ... what group was that? ... she had a great mohawk.
Maybe some henna tattoos would be cool as well. The seahorses would be a fun inside joke.
Susan--what in particular about diet was the issue for hair loss?
Cheers,
Bob
