Borderline Personality Disorder is a somewhat controversial catch-all diagnosis for a cluster of symptoms. Treatment really depends on the particular difficulties and symptoms of the individual seeking treatment. For example, if the person suffers from a lot of anxiety, that might be addressed through psychotherapy and/or medication. And so on for the particular presenting symptoms, which can include depression, eating disorders, difficulty controlling anger, unstable moods. Although the diagnosis of BPD may be used, each person who is given the diagnosis is different. There are some therapists who use cognitive-behavioral therapy, individually or in groups, to help the person develop more effective skills for coping with all aspects of life, like learning to manage emotions more effectively.

Medication wise, I've heard that Neurontin has been used with some success.
