SICK AND TIRED OF SSRI'S...I'M OVER IT ! (QUITTING

Posted by Jeff on August 18, 1999, at 23:00:34

I have tried many many meds now for the past 4 years...trust me I've tried them all..old and new. I am currently on Celexa and Klonopin, and aside from the 15 lb weight gain in 4 months..I am basically a walking zombie. I cut the Celexa down from 40mg to 20..that didnt work...now I am slowly withdrawing altogether off the celexa. It is effecting my work, my thinking, my memory, horrible dreams my sex life..I could go on and on. Oh and I have lost my spirituality..basically a walking blob.

I am going to continue the Klonopin because I know I am going to have a rough road ahead cleansing my system of the damn antidepressants. Hey they worked for me in the beginning...but I did not think I would be on them this long. For anyone interested in my story I will continue to post my progress, and check the board every day.
Peace all...

Wow Jeff, that sure is frustrating. I've felt the same way many times. Sometimes I actually think the wash-outs were good in the longrun, because they gave me a chance to get to know the nature of my depression better, to come to grips with how serious it is, and to regain the strength to try another med. Actually, not just another med, but another approach. A different class of meds. Sometimes a cleansing period after a drug failure, I think, is beneficial to reassess the whole situation and draw up a new plan of action with a clear mind, reviewing the past, assessing the present, and mapping the future. Question though, what meds HAVEN'T you tried? Have you tried just ADs? Mood stabilizers? Anti-psychotics? There is definitely something out there that will work, and it might not be a straight-forward anitdepressant approach. Wishing you a smooth day. JohnL.

Sometimes it is darkest just before the dawn.

I had reached the point you are at many times, but now, I am so thankful I hung it.

I had to change doctors, go through withdrawals, a couple of ambulance rides when things didn't work quite right, but it's been worth it.

It could all change tomorrow, but that's true in life, so I'll take what I can get!

Ummm, maybe what's turning you into a blob is actually the Klonopin... better check that out, because Klonopin is much more likely to make you feel like that than Celexa. I understand your frustrations with SSRIs. I have tried them all and they just don't work for me, and they cause me sexual problems. Try a non-SSRI like Remeron or Wellbutrin. If you have tried these already, try an anticonvulsant! Sometimes they work wonders (the new ones especially)! Above all, don't give up. More and more drugs are developed yearly, and we have learned to use older drugs in brave new ways!

James
