The "new" signs are a great idea. However as soon as I read one new post and come back to look at another, ALL the "new" signs disappear. So now I can't ID the other new posts. ANd, since these recent changes I notice that when I come back to the main page it always brings me to the top and I have to find my place again--each time. Before, after the first time, it would bring me back to the area of the last read message.

The "new" signs are disappearing because it's considered a new visit when you come back. At that point, "new" = new since you were there before = posted while you were reading.
But the way the main page works now, you shouldn't be leaving it to read messages. The main page should just stay in one window (or frame), and the messages should go in another. That way, you're not reloading the main page all the time, so the "new" signs aren't getting cancelled.
I hope that helps...

When I click on "back" I then come back to the double frame window but all the new signs are gone.
