Thanks for asking, Lee. I'm trying to be very casual about this not drinking thing - No Big Deal. It seems every time I approach it more seriously I feel worse when I fail. So this time I'm taking a sideways look at it, kind of strolling alongside it, so I get used to it as a way of living like eating more fruits and vegetables. Gee that sounds so trite, but I have to put this in a perspective that works for me.
(So why would I be counting days, then? Welcome to my irony.)
Physically I feel tons better waking up without a hangover. Getting past Saturday and Sunday was difficult, but I just kept busy until it was time to go to bed.

I understand what you're saying about a casual perspective. I ended up putting AA on hold for a while for the same reason. Great support, but I found the more I focused on the problem, the more I wanted to drink. The more I focus on other activities that don't have me paying attention to not drinking, the stronger I feel.

I think TamaraJ had a good idea though, coming here to have milestones (and whatever else we need) acknowledged. We all need a pat on the back, and here its more like dropping a note to see how we're all doing.

Not trite at all--we each have to do what works for us. Best positive thoughts are with you--have a great day!

Lee

There's one aa meeting I like to go to where I am. It's a big book study, in smoke filled room full of biker types. The guy that runs it is missing a few teeth, but he's one of the most intellegent people I've ever met - and his meetings keep me in stitches!

I don't go very often myself either. As much as this meeting amuses me, I'm lacking motivation.

But, every Wednesday, the IOP I went to has a 'family night' for patients and families. Mainly to explain to the families what the 'quitter' is going through and to convince them to not feel guilty. We almost never miss that one (going on 2 years) because it's just the type of reality check I need. Seeing the newbies and their families and what they are going through remind me I don't want to do it again.

You're getting close to 60. I'll be thinking of you this weekend.

Thanks Auntie Mel--54 days today! Feeling pretty great. I'm very excited at the thought of my 60 day milestone. Thinking about how I can treat myself for a well-earned reward.

Kudos Lee. You should be very proud of yourself. Hugs and pats all around. Now for the treat: a new cd? a manicure? a pedicure? a massage? some Godiva chocolates maybe? Whatever you decide, you deserve it!

I felt kind of whoopsy when this board was down... so I baked some chocolate-oatmeal-spice brownie thing I invented. Looks like haggis but tastes much better :)

Thanks Tamara. Great treat ideas, but I can't decide. Perhaps all of the above is the way to go, yes? :)

Thanks for the support!

Looks aside, it sounds wonderful--care to the share your recipe? Glad you managed to get through the whoopsy feeling. I know you wanted to keep it casual this time, but please let me congratulate you--day 9 now isn't it? That's fantastic!

Yes! Yes! Yes! :-) A full spa day perhaps, with a nice box of Godiva chocolates and some soothing music as augmenters :-).

And, you're welcome very much. I have been where you are, and support can make all the difference.

Take good care,

Tamara

Indeed! SJB, have you given any thought to how you're going to treat yourself? Pick something really wonderful for yourself OK? Doesn't have to be expensive, just really wonderful--you deserve it and then some!

Enjoy!

You know Auntie Mel, I almost forgot about that. You've had such faith in me right from day one--often more faith than I had in myself. Thank you so much--love you for that!

Little choo choo is still chugging, and pushing on towards 90 :)

Oh, thank you guys for replying. It really helped. Although, I am proud that I've refrained I am upset about my huge appetite. The chocolate isn't really working, I've just been ravenous for any type of food. However, I know it's much more important for me to stop drinking.

I picked up "Sober For Good" from the library and I can relate to so many of the stories. Also, since I have not yet been to AA (I'm not in denial, I just a loner type and am very uncomfortable in group settings) this book offers advice from those who have succeeded with and without AA.

Anyway, I've been a bit down. Weather sucks, my clothes don't fit, I'm getting old, I've been pushed aside in my job and now have no work (if it wasn't a state job, I'd been fired/layed off long ago). . . BUT, I'm NOT drinking, my year old lab is the most wonderful dog in the world and so is my husband, uh, that's the most wonderful man in the world, not dog.

Geez, I'm rambling. Congrats to the rest of you as well, whether you've been sober for x amount of days or still trying. Your here, on this thread, and for me, that was huge step.

I'm looking forward to my 30-day virtual chip. SuperBowl Sunday was the last time I drank, and it was a doozy. I never want to feel like that again.

I'm not a group person myself. Actually I *can* do ok in a group, but only if I know the people in it, and that takes a while.

You could start with taking a friend to an 'open' meeting. Or sample several places that way. You might find a fit.

If they ask you to talk you can alway say 'No thanks, I'm here to listen tonight.' They won't force you.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book, movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/7717.html

Thanks!

Bob
