Well, it's cold enough here that I have a quarter inch of ice on the inside of my window. Yes, that's right, the inside. It's soooo cold.

When I was about 6 yrs old and living in Minnesota, I went home with a friend one day and we walked across the lake. Half way across, my friend's foot went through & she couldn't get it out. I didn't know what to do! I had lived my first 5 yrs in TX, so this was all new to me. Plus I was 6. I remember trying to dig in the ice with my mittens and it doing absolutely nothing. I saw one of our class mates and yelled to her for help. She yelled back for me to get off the lake before I fell in too. I felt like a coward but ran to the side. My friend then saw her sister on the other side of the lake and started screaming for her. I remember so clearly her sister just booking it from wa-a-a-y across the lake (she seemed so old, she was probably 8 or 9). She first pulled her foot out, and then the boot before it could sink.
That's all I remember. It seems like she never really talked to me after that.

Declan - the things you mentioned are lovely, but I just wish winter was not as long.
Where are you?
Kath

I once heard of folks from the U.S. driving across the Ontario border in the summer with skiis on their roof-racks. They thought they come up here to do some skiing. :-))The snow has melted by late March or April where I am. Lately there's often a 'hot spell' in May (let's see - high 70's I think). Then summer, which can vary - 70's, 80's - sometimes a hot spell of high 80's-90. September can be 70's & even 80's but the nights start to get cooler. This year we didn't get 'winter' weather until late. There was still no snow for Christmas.
Now, my memory is bad, so I might have other Ontarions saying I'm wrong!!
hugs, Kath

Is anyone interested in saying where they live?
My memory is crappy & that way I could write it down.
Like, I'd say: Ontario, Canada
I know some folks might not feel comfy about it.
Hope I'm not out-of-line suggesting this.

I live in the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia, about 2 hours south of Washington DC (where I grew up).
It's too darn cold. Hoping for snow tonight though. :)

New Orleans. :)
I think we've turned the corner, coldwise. It's getting hot during the day, with cool underneath. And that's an unmistakeable sign of spring. Shorts are showing up all over. Shorts with jackets, maybe, but shorts. The azaleas will likely bloom soon.
Ahhhh.

Wow - that sounds like a lucrative business to be in!!
What kinda pets do you have? I have a Mali Uromastyx lizard & if it was cold I don't know what I'd do, as she needs it HOT during the daytime. It can get cooler for her at nite, in fact she needs that, but not COLD. She's 14 inches long & like to be held & rub her nose against my cheek. I LOVE her to bits.!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad it turned out OK.

That's what the hip-hop stations call Fort Worth and Dallas around here. Its going to be weird moving to Dallas, I kind of feel like a trader. How am I ever going to learn the highways? They call them by names instead of numbers. Like I75 is Central Expressway' - that's the only one know.

Only problem is that the a/c on my car is broken, and today for the first time, I really minded.
I don't know when I'll have the time (or money) to get it fixed.

Going on two weeks of -30 wind chills, and more to come. :-/

Greetings Fellow Palm Tree,
I'd like to be planted in Hawaii on the beach. I'll allow non-obnoxious tourists to take refuge from the sun under my branches. Obnoxious ones will have coconuts dropped on their heads. Ah, the glorious life of a palm tree...

I'm very fond of coconut juice and apologise for my failure to send mountains, palm trees and warmth as requested.
I live in Australia, Kath, and it takes ages to get those things through customs. You know how it is these days.
