They are both nicer than I even imagined. Deneb shared her unbrella with me 'cause the sky is leaking here...;-)It was excellent. I talked too much and spilled tea on myself and....who cares?!! Babblers are the best!! And Lar gave us butter tarts! And he brought lots and lots more for everyone tomorrow :-) Mmmmmmmmmmmm!!
It's raining and kinda cool, but it doesn't matter, I feel so good to be here. I will post more when I can. Hope to meet up with everyone else tomorrow.

I forget why exactly.....(too many messages flying back and forth last couple of days) but she didn't want to/wasn't available for dinner last night. I get to meet her and others today for ice cream in a few hours <grin>
Hopefully I can keep that in my mouth and NOT down the front of my shirt....I can be such a dork when I'm nervously talking and eating all at once...or in last night's case, picking up a cup of tea....
Wish you were here, too :-(

I'm so jealous! It would be so cool to meet these people I talk to all the time!
So what was it like when you first met them? Did you have a place that you met? How did you know who they were? Of course, Deneb and Larry have both posted their picture, so I guess that made it easier. Did you hug them right away?
I hope yall have a blast!!!

P.S. I ALWAYS spill stuff on myself or knock my drink over. I knocked two different beers over on the same night, the second one the glass broke! Everyone thought it was becuase I was drunk and wouldn't believe otherwise. I was like, I'm just clumsy!!!! How am I going to get drunk when I keep spilling my beer?

They are heavenly.
I had two.
Very rich and buttery - sort of like buttery pecan pie without the pecans, and much more buttery. Definately good!

Hmmm, sounds like a much better version of what my mom used to make with pie crust scraps--brown sugar pie. It's just brown sugar, cinnamon, butter and a tiny bit of milk. Yummy!

Hello all!
I tried to post this last night, but lost my internet connection. And GG, and Daisy, I can see that you posted, but I can't read them. This is going to drive me crazy!!!
7 of us met for ice cream (yum!!!) Poet, Auntie Mel, Deneb, Larry Hoover, Dr. Bob, 10derheart and me. A couple of us got lost on the way there, but Larry is very good talking people in on a cell phone. Thanks, Larry! I wouldn't have wanted to miss the ice cream.
Then we wandered around and found the camera that Auntie Mel had lost earlier in the day. It is a holiday weekend, and the China Town area was full of sidewalk sales.
Dinner was for 9 - the ice cream crew plus Pseudoname and Canada Girl. What a nice group of people! The food was great. Canada Girl used to work with the people who owned the restaurant. We had a private area for our table, so it was easy to talk and listen. We closed the restaurant and then stood talking on the street for a while.
Breakfast is at 10!
I wish you all could be here. It is really nice to see people in person and be able to spend some time with them.
Having a great time,
Falls.

Deneb, Pseudoname and 10derheart were on time for breakfast. Poet, Auntie Mel and I were late (we'll have to leave really early on Monday so we are on time for the presentation!!!). It was a cool place for breakfast. When we got there there was a line outside, but we saw the others through the window, and we cut to the front of the line to join them at their 4 person table. The restaurant was pretty accomodating (especially when they figured out that we weren't going to take up another table). Deneb shared her breakfast with the 3 latecomers (it was some awesome waffle with some wonderful sweet cream sauce and strawberries and bananas).
Then we went to the conference to register and we all got these really cool laptop bags filled with tons of heavy paper that we carried around all day. We went to see the room that our presentation is in tomorrow. It is much less scary in real life than the picture that Dr. Bob had, so I feel better about the presentation. Now we just have to hope that someone shows up!! And I need to review Dr. Bob's slides because the thread he talks about always bothers me, so I need to get the bother out of my system before tomorrow.
Poet, Auntie Mel, Deneb and I went to see some of the exhibits and get some freebies. Some of the exhibitors were interested in our presentation tomorrow (and some of them just act really interested in whatever you say). We did talk to some people who were trying to get the pdocs to stop accepting bribes from the drug reps. They were quite interested in pdocs getting drug info from Babble, and asked for the URL. We even got a book about dreams (hardcover and all - it was really heavy to lug around all day).
But we didn't go to the shoe museum when we said that we were going to, and Dr. Bob showed up and we didn't, so he went to the museum by himself. Sorry Dr. Bob - next time we'll have to make more certain plans with you. If we knew that you were coming we might have changed our plans and gotten there on time.
After the exhibits, we met up with 10derheart and went uptown to meet Larry and then we did go through the shoe museum. Daisy, I wish you were there!!!! There were a couple of good pairs of red heels - and I thought of you. There weren't any shoes there that I couldn't live without, but I'm not a shoe person. It was quite interesting and they showed us the whole history of shoes (including chinese feet binding). I wanted to steal Gene Kelly's shoe for my daughter who like to ballroom dance, but I didn't.
Then we went for dinner at a Canadian favorite restaurant famous for its chicken and had a nice dinner. By 7:30 we were all exhausted and came home.
Tomorrow will be interesting! I think we are all a little nervous (as we should be). It should be fun!
(When we were at the conference some of us decided that it was like going to the zoo - we were observing the pdocs. They are kind of a funny bunch.........)

I'd add more, but Falls did such a great job, I can't think of anything right now.....too tired and my feet still hurt...ironic I've had pretty uncomfortable foot pain, *especially* in the shoe museum! Made me mad 'cause I was probably a drag on the group, always sitting and walking slowly...guess a visit to the podiatrist is in order..:-( Dumb old feet.
Despite painful feet, I am just so happy I came and didn't change my mind at the last minute (I was losing my nerve....)
Dr. Bob is much as I expected. Very friendly in a quiet way and genuinely eager to spend time and talk with us. (The champagne was nice - we toasted Babble and Babblers :-)) He's been busy, so we didn't get to see him too much, though.
Every Babbler here is so nice and unique and it sure does feel like we've already known each other on some level. This has to be one of the coolest things I've ever been involved in....Babble is really important to me and this just adds so much to that feeling....
I'll try to post more, but maybe not till late Monday night when I get home, or Tuesday. Tired, tired, tired, but in a good way....

Nobody told me there was a SHOE MUSEUM!!!
Geez...should have come. Of course my son said the museum probably isn't half as full as my closet!
Glad you are all having fun.

I wish I were there.
Poor Dr. Bob, all alone at the shoe museum.

Isn't that the coolest thing? The Bata Shoe Museum is right around the corner from the Royal Ontario Museum - how fitting.
If I sound like a booster for Toronto - my adopted hometown - it's because I am :-)
Kudos to all the babblefest attendees!

I am sorry, Racer, but that is "need to know" information. You have to come to Canada. That's all there is to it.
I have been trying to find this recipe, the way this particular bakery I discovered makes them, for over almost twenty years! They will not sell me the recipe. Only the tarts.
But you heard. They are yum. They make my mouth very happy.

Well, I'm not going to do a super long post because I'm exhausted. It was a great day.
The presentation went well. Larry is absolutely right about Deneb's wonderful contribution. She showed all present what Babble truly is. They didn't quite get it until she spoke - but after she spoke they all had big smiles on their faces and understood what Babble is. It was awesome.
I am so glad I came. It was an honor to speak at the conference.
And it was wonderful to spend time with my fellow Babblers.
More details after some sleep!

Thanks to everyone keeping us posted about the weekend. I really really really wished I could have been there --- hopefully there will be another get together in the works for next year.
I'm proud that all of you made it to the conference. I don't think I could have done that. How many p-docs were in attendance? Did they ask questions?
