I like the name Community better than Social.

I think closing those boards was a good idea. Now people won't be overwhelmed with too many boards to visit and now it might make the boards we do have more active.
I think it might be a good idea to have a section in information that links back to the old boards, just so people can find them for the sake of having complete archives.
It's not needed, it's just an idea. I was able to find the old boards no problem by changing the url. Parents was a little tricky to find, but I tried "child" after about the 5th try and was able to find it.
Oh and I was able to find the 2001 board by using the Wayback Machine. It was neat. Lots of Slinky's posts are there.

Hi, everyone,
Here's an update. Again, the number of new posts per week in the current archive of each board:
Medication 587.9
Psychology 69.9
Alternative 51.8
Social 49.6
Neurotransmitters 15.9
Administration 12.6
Newbies 10.7
Withdrawal 7.8
Health 6.0
Writing 4.5
Faith 3.5
Substance Use 3.1
Grief 1.2
Politics 1.0
2000 0.4I'm thinking about "closing" Withdrawal and Writing. They and their archives would stay where they are, but new threads wouldn't be able to be started and follow-ups to existing threads would automatically be redirected to Medication and Social.
Let me know what you think,
Bob

I think a good decision. As withdrawal ties into meds. Phillipa writing? I've maybe visited a few times?

Perhaps have some sort of a pop-up or shadow (not sure what it's called) that says the board is closed and related topics can be seen at such-and-such a place ?

I'm going ahead and closing those boards. I'll add something to their introductions saying where those topics can be discussed now.

Bob, you want us to post to this thread, but its too damn long to figure out if something has already been discussed.
I strongly suggest you close the grief board and consolidate it into the social board. I posted on there in 2009 and can speak from experience. The low volume of posting there is worse than having no grief board at all.

Maybe it'll be next. Did you post a link to Social?

I agree 100 percent. Why isolate expressions of grief but not other feelings, anyway?

I also agree. Very strongly.
I've never been in favor of removing grief from the community, to isolate it on a board that is nothing but grief, and therefore may be too overwhelming for some people (or many people) to visit regularly.
It might help if "Social" was changed to a more inclusive name. In practice it seems to be "everything else" but the name "Social" implies something a bit different. Maybe "General" or "Community" or something? I *like* "NOS" but I'm afraid newcomers might not understand that.

Dr Bob just popped on and saw this I'd say grief to social and substance abuse to meds. Just my personal opinion as it seems substance abuse ties in with meds quite a few times. Phillipa

Dr Bob wise decision. Seems most links and new posts end up on meds from other boards as well. Maybe leave social and administration and Medication. Didn't psychbabble begins with one or two boards? I wasn't a member then? Phillipa

I think the Neurotransmitters board is no longer useful. If anything, people get confused as to where they should post their questions. Many important questions go unanswered there, as the board is basically vacant. I am concerned that new posters will not think to post the same questions on the Medications board where they would be more likely to receive a reply. Technical questions are now being asked and answered on the Medications board, so I do not think the Neurotransmitter board serves a purpose.
I was hoping that the Neurotransmitters board would attract posting on issues regarding pure research and theory in the neuroscience field that might eventually have clinical applications, but it never worked out that way.

Frankly, I think Dr. B should close the newbie board as well. Nobody goes there except newbies on occasion who are then completely ignored. There are other boards listed as well, which I've never even opened. Like "2000." What's that?

2000 is the maximum number of outstanding requests that Lou can make to Dr. Hsuing. Once that number is reached, something very special concerning all of us will happen on the 2000 board. I believe that Lou is very close to reaching this goal, perhaps less than 20 requests away.

Scott I know I remember when Dr. Bob began closing boards. At one time we had self esteem, eating, writing, relationships and more I've forgotten but the Neurotransmitter Board was yours. Oh and the withdrawal board. Back to Medication, Social, Administration. Alternative is also now on main med board. Phillipa

Newbies might be next, but the newbies who've posted there don't seem to me to have been ignored.
