Out of interest, why did you tell a deputy to PBC, yet when I contacted you to ask about if the new deputies had been announced, you told me they were not yet undertaking duties?
Wierd!
Might be nice for deputies to have some kind of marker next to their name to signify they are deputies? because as far as I was concerned, 10derheart was simply posting as a poster - and I follow all of this as closely as I can.. can you imagine the confusion for people that don't read admin or are fairly new?

OK, now you guys are freaking me.
JUST called someone a name??????
There has GOT to be more to it than that? The cops would laugh at Bob if he called them for that.
But I'll admit, NOW I am a little nervous.OK NikkiT2 you GOT to tell me what you mean bt me being a certain someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Aaaaack!
I always get laughed at/with cuz I miss stuff, I don't get jokes and they goto explain them to me. I don't mind, I laugh too. Sometimes I get jokes but there a time delay!
So PLEASE take pity on me and tell me what you mean cuz i never gonna get this one!
But it WAS a fun way to start my morning.
I love laughter. Its a gift I'd say.
Take care you guys.

My guess it wasn't a babble "rule", but some kind of evidence of criminal activity or intent. Drug distribution? A credible threat against someone perhaps? Something like that. Breaking board civility rules seems unlikely to result in police action. There are no laws about being polite that I am aware of, anyway. I also speculate that a lot of psychiatrists are experienced with being insulted by some of their patients. If Dr. Bob went to the police saying, "A poster on the internet called me a Whatever", or, "Poster So-and-So called Someone a Whatever even after we gave a PCB"- they'd likely tell him that they couldn't care less, and to stop bugging them.
>
> I feel scared by it. I was stunned and do not understand what rule was broken. If you are not civil you get blocked on here after a while. I didn't know the cops would be called...I am looking forward to an explaination

>because as far as I was concerned, 10derheart was simply posting as a poster
So this isn't enough:
>>Respectfully,
10derHeart, acting as deputy for Dr. Bob<<along with the subject line containing "PBC" which of course, any posters can use as well, but it's kinda a tip-off, and then there's the "stock" language we tend to use in the PBC about the FAQ and Dr. Bob, etc......
Or I am totally misunderstanding and you just meant *in general* you'd rather know any time you see a posting name on a thread that that person is a deputy (like w/an indicator)?
I want to understand so we can keep thinking about options for making it better and less confusing here. Because it surely *is* easy to get lost with rule changes and other things here....happens to me on a regular basis, too!

I tend to appreciate Dr. Bob's discretion in not discussing poster actions. I would be rather unhappy about seeing anything I did that long ago discussed by Dr. Bob on the Admin board. And Dr. Bob really can't give reasons in any specific instance without doing that, can he?
There are always the archives, if anyone wishes to look it up. Civility rules should of course be followed in any ensuing discussion.
I'm absolutely certain Dr. Bob only calls the police in limited circumstances, which would not include name calling, or discussion of the illegal use of drugs. How many times has the discussion of the police being called come up? Clearly not as often as names are called, or illegal drug use is discussed.
On the other hand, I imagine if outside parties seized your computer and discovered your posting name (or otherwise linked you with your posting name on this site), anything you posted would be fair game in any legal inquiries, depending on a judge's ruling. Or maybe I've watched too much TV.

My sense is that we can trust Bob enough to think that he called the police in a situation where calling the police was appropriate.
If something like that had happened to me, I think I wouldn't want it to be discussed now. Sometimes even when a discussion is framed in a sympathetic way, it can be disruptive to the person being discussed.
So unless there were some awfully pressing reason for bringing it up-- as opposed I guess to asking the question more abstractly-- and here I contradict myself somewhat-- but I'm sure I could make the appropriate distinctions if someone wants me to-- but I'll assume no one does-- it might be more helpful to discuss the concerns outside a specific person's experiences. Maybe if there's a hypothetical context, or a specific concern about the future, that would be better than bringing up the actual person. Esp. since, as Dinah says, it was a long time ago.
What it reminds me yet again is that it's awfully hard to formulate rules that can be applied in a blanket way-- because situations differ so much. Bob does it remarkably well. To me, the question of favoritism falls somewhat under this category: do we want a "one-size-fits-all' set of rules, which can be fairer in some ways, or a degree of flexibility in interpreting the rules (not that this could be avoided), which will feel unfair, and sometimes arbitrary in yet another way (assuming that the "one-size" type of enforcement will also seem arbitrary.)

Is Jeroen well?.
Can you give a reason for calling the police -if you did so?.

I certainly don't speak for Dr. Bob. He did admit in a post he notified the police some time ago concerning Jeroen. I suggest you do an archive search. It might shed some light on the situation. Whether you agree or disagree with Dr. Bob's methods, I do think he has our best interests at heart.

Clearly something extreme and out of the ordinary happened. I would bet that most of us are not in any danger of having the police called on us, no matter how many Psychobabble rules, such as civility rules, we happen to break. Breaking civility or babble rules isn't against the law. Even rudeness isn't against the law, though it's unpleasant. Forgetting to use proper quotes on books, accidently listing an online pharmacy, discussing your marijuana usage back in college, posting under multiple names, name-calling- none of that behavior should result in any police action. Those aren't CRIMINAL offenses. The most terrible behavior on babble should ultimately result in being blocked, at worst-which isn't against the law, and couldn't possibly go on any police record. Unless they are threatening others with violence, setting up an illegal drug laboratory, engaging in identity theft, soliciting minors, etc- I think most people can take a deep breath and trust things are ok and in order.

This is a good point though not anything I didn't think of but if we jump to the conclusion this is true then we could lead the poster to feel accused and put down and that would not be civil ...That is why I think many of us would like Dr Bob to say yes or no on the name calling.

Oh boy. Maybe this wasn't worded well or thought out properly. What I wanted to express is that I think the average poster is pretty secure from police action, and that police are likely only contacted in extreme and unusual circumstances-not for breaking babble rules. My sincerest apologies if anyone feels accused in any way because of what I wrote. At this point I have already long been thinking abstractly, no longer about the original post which led to the discussion. I have no more idea about that than anyone else, and do not wish to speculate about it. Thank you for clarifying your line of thinking for me, Fallen4myT. The discussion makes more sense to me now, and again, I hope I did not cause anyone to feel accused. Your points are enlightening.

I do not feel you made any assumptions or any of that..sorry .....I mean in general we are not to assume so for me..thats why I want Dr Bob to weigh in on this. I have been here MANY years..and no cops here ...but one has to wonder whats up ..and I have to beleive what the poster said (by civil rules I think?) till I am shown otherwise. Dr Bob did not say to that poster he didnt do it for name calling...but he did say he did report that person a year ago....as it didnt reply to the WHOLE post ...I hope for clarification...But to ME nobody has been uncivil...I hope this makes sense :)
